This year I am delighted to be supporting, and attending The Big Swim 2025 in Brighton (8 March 2025).
This is an exciting event which promises to unite us all through our love of the sea and show our support for women worldwide. The event hopes to gather 1000 swimmers together on the day, over two dual locations; Dorset and Brighton.
I'm the admin of a local Bluetits Chill Swimmers group in Suffolk and I'm currently swimming in lots of different locations as research for a guidebook about wild swimming in London and South East England so it will be great to swim in the sea in Brighton.
After taking part in the UK Cold Water Swimming Championships in January with a big group of Bluetits Chill Swimmers, I have decided to celebrate IWD in Brighton, with fellow sea swimmers. I am planning to attend this swim with a group of Bluetits from Suffolk, where I live. We will be travelling down together for the day to spend the day in the water with other women!
I' really excited to take part in this epic event. I like to celebrate my female friendships which have been forged and deepened in the water. There is something about sharing the water with other women who have adventurous souls. What better day to do this than on International Women's Day?

The Big Swim 2025
In 2025, this annual sea swimming event will be running for the third year. They are planning to run a dual location sea swim to ensure that we are part of the UK’s biggest sea swimming event to celebrate International Women’s Day and champion women across the UK!
This event is hosted by PinkNicky, Land and Wave and Sea Lanes, Brighton.
The aims are to celebrate IWD 2025 and to gather 1000 swimmers together. In 2023, they had 250 swimmers; in 2024, they had 500 swimmers; and in 2025, they are aiming for 1000 swimmers to unite on Saturday, 8th March 2025, in East Sussex, Brighton and Dorset, Poole. I also love the idea of fundraising for Surfers Against Sewage.

What to Expect
The idea is to create a noisy, colourful spectacle on the beach! Join us at The Big Swim 2025 on Saturday 8th March - meet 11.30am, beach at Sea Lanes, Madeira Drive, Brighton.
The event has full safety coverage with lifeguards and first aiders. This is an outdoor event, so be ready for the weather. The event will be covered by three podcasts: White Fox Talking, HeadRight Out and The Everyday Adventure Podcasts
Beforehand there is a Book Launch with Emma Simpson “Breaking Waves” followed by a panel discussion hosted by Juliet Parkin. Looking forward to hearing from this incredible panel of women whom have weathered enormous changes in their lives. I will be going to this with fellow Bluetits before the swim.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
As well as challenging gender stereotypes and bias, IWD is a day for celebrating women’s achievements. Women and girls are diverse, and can be who and what they want to be. So let's support women in whatever way you can.
How will you be celebrating International Women's Day this year?
