Introduce positive daily habits
One thing our family has started doing is practicing daily positive affirmations. These are positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts. It is a super simple thing you can do to start your day happier and more productive. They can be extremely simple, and all you need to do is pick a phrase and repeat it to yourself.
We love this Affirmation Card Deck which was kindly sent to us to try from Mål Paper. This UK-based stationery brand with a focus on improving wellness, fulfillment and potential of the user. Their collection of products has been designed and produced to foster positive daily habits – with the end result of a happier, calmer, and more productive way of living.
Take the guesswork out of creating a daily affirmation, and choose at random one of the 52 affirmation card prompts. Or you might prefer the Affirmations for Kids Card Deck, designed to help teach the power of affirmations to children. After all, how can it hurt to tell your children how awesome they are? If it sends them off to school with a smile on their face then it is worth it.

Create a cosy atmosphere
From the whole house to just one room or a bedroom, your surroundings have an effect on how you feel. A pretty bunch of flowers in a vase, a little plant and some atmospheric lighting can make you feel happy. Candles are a must for the perfect 'hygge' atmosphere too. Just pick your favourite scent and let the flickering flames soothe you. Read about introducing hygge into your life here.
Light a fire
A roaring open fire or woodburner is perfect to warm your room if you have one. Hving a real fire was one of the requirements of a house when we moved to the country! We love lighting it on a chilly day. There is just something about the smell, the warmth and the hypnotising flames.
White Horse Energy kindly gifted me some natural firelighters, kiln-dried kindling and firewood, as well as Nestro briquettes from their EcoBlaze range. These logs are perfect for stoves and fireplaces as the biomass wood materials are compressed and kiln-dried to make it burn with great intensity. If you want to give them a try visit White Horse Energy.
Get outside
Go for a walk, run, horse ride, bike ride, swim! Get those endorphins going and feel the benefits of mother nature by doing something in the great outdoors for a positive mindset. Read my blog post about how nature can help with stress.
Is there a new sport or activity you could try?
Sport England's Join the Movement is a National Lottery-funded campaign that provides inspiration and simple, fun and free ways to help people get active in and around their home during the coronavirus outbreak. On their website is a set of activities to help keep kids active and entertained. From Disney Workouts to activities for disabled children, check out www.sportengland.org/jointhemovement for more information.
Plan fun things to do
As a family you can take it in turns to come up with positive and healthy family activities and outings. A board game, a trip to the beach, park, or a cinema for example. They don't have to be expensive, just an opportunity for you all to be together.
Let me know in the comments what you do to be happy and healthy.
